Grey Lines Appearing in Newly Created PDF Document

I use Acrobat 5 and have never had ANY problems converting scanned documents to PDF files via Distiller. Today, however, when converting a multi-page document to PDF, some of the newly created PDF pages had grey text-box type outlines surrounding the text (some pages had two or three of these boxes; some had as many as six); and the boxes actualy print out on final documents. (Also, some of the pages within the same document displayed the grey lines, but the grey lines on those pages did NOT print out with the lines showing as the other pages did.) After several hours, I've discovered that during the conversion to PDF, somehow multiple text-type boxes were added to the PDF document. Using the touch-up object tool, I can click within the box and the grey lines become dark blue lines, and I can even move the boxes around on the page; but, for the life of me, I cannot make these grey lines disappear. If I right-click to "delete," the entire box--including the text inside it--disappears. Anyone EVER experience this; and, if so, is there a way to get rid of those blasted grey lines???!!!
