Scanning problem: Message - Unrecoverable Error. Operation stopped

I am having trouble scanning documents into pdf files. I have Windows 98 SE; Adobe Business 6.0 and an HP ScanJet 4100C. The scanner is recognized by Windows in the Device Manager and responds positively to tests. I can scan a document and send it to the printer fine or save it to disc. When I attempt to create a pdf document from scanner, the scan works fine until I try to send it to Adobe. Adobe shuts down the scanner software and I get a message in Adobe which says: An unrecoverable error has occurred. Operation stopped.

Hoping someone can help me resolve this.

Clarification: By Adobe Business 6.0 I meant Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard.

Scanning problem: Message - Unrecoverable Error. Operation stopped
I am having exactly the same problem, but with Windows 2000, Acrobat 6.0 Standard and a HP ScanJet 4100C. I have tried removing Acrobat 6.0 Standard and the HP PrecisionScan LT v1.02 software and re-installing them both but the same error re-occurs. I have also downloaded the Acrobat 6.0.1 update and this also didn't resolve the problem. So any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Hi! I may be able to help. First, a couple of questions. What do you mean by "send it to Adobe?" Are you not scanning directly into Adobe? Second, what kind of driver are you using?

I have a scanjet 3500c. I am also experienceing the same problem with Version 6.0 Professional--which I updated to the latest version. The scanner initially scans the document and displays the image for approval. Once you press scan the second time, the scanner light illuminates and the light progresses from back to front...as normal. However, the progress box that stretches a green band from left to right does not function. The scanner completes the scan, it appears that Acrobat is processing the scanned image and then an error box appears indicting "An unrecoverable error has occurred. Operation stopped."

To see if there was a problem with the scanner, I uninstalled Version 6.0 and reinstalled 5.0. All worked perfectly. I also went to HP's support site and installed the patch for twain update for Acrobat Ver 6.0 dated 03-10-16. Hope some one has an answer.

I am concerned with this as well. I have an Hp Scanjet 3570 reinstalled with software updated from the Hp website yesterday...
Still when i scan the second page into Acrobat 6.0.1 professional I consistently get a windows installer message immediately after ACCEPT is clicked in the scanner software "Please wait while Windows configures the scan 2.0 hardware" Every time.
After this finishes it does append the pdf but at 45 seconds per "install" this is intolerable. And today the "unrecoverable error" occurred as well after 10 scans so my hunch is that this is all related. My question is it the scanner driver, the scanner software or Acrobat 6?
I guess the answer in any case sounds like a workaround- reinstall acrobat 5!

Upgraded to Acrobat 6 plus the service pack 1. When creating a PDF file from scanner (using menu). After accepting the first page, get the following error; "An unrecoverable error has occurred. Operation stopped." Using an HP 5300C scanner. Same thing on two different PCs? Uninstalled v6 and went back to v5. Will wait for next service pack or version 7 ???? Adobe, fix your software!

OK, reloaded Acrobat 6 and installed Acrobat update. Reloaded old HP 3500 C software and driver. Did not load twain update from HP. Here is what occurs

First scan, not problem, no error messages, works like it should.

Second scan, wants to load some missing software, but before it has a chance to load, press cancel. Scanner scans and Acrobat works ok.

Have found that if you cancel HP message that it wants to load some updated software immediately, and I mean right now, no delays, it works ok. Hey, this is convenient.

My guess, there is a problem with the update from HP. So, Adobe, get on the telephone, talk to HP and get this fixed. And please don't tell us that its is HP's responsibility. It is your software that I want to use. Capish
